Marine Ecobiological Research Centre

Welcome to Marine Eco Biological Research Centre

Advancing Marine Science, Empowering Coastal Communities

About Us

Established in 2016 in Tuticorin, India, the Marine Ecobiological Research Centre (MERCE) is dedicated to marine biodiversity research, conservation, and sustainable fisheries management. Our mission is to protect and restore marine ecosystems while ensuring the socio-economic development of fisherfolk through research-driven policies and community engagement.

Our Focus Areas

🔬

Marine Biodiversity Research – Studying coral reef ecosystems, marine species behavior, and ecological interactions.

🌱

Conservation & Restoration – Protecting endangered marine species, coral reef restoration, and sustainable fisheries.

👩‍🔬

Fisherfolk Empowerment – Enhancing the livelihood of coastal communities through capacity building, alternative income sources, and sustainable fishing practices.

🌊

Climate Change & Marine Ecology – Investigating the impact of climate change on marine biodiversity and developing adaptive solutions.

📡

Technology & Innovation – Applying AI, remote sensing, and underwater robotics for marine monitoring and ecosystem health assessment.

Why Our Work Matters

The Indian Ocean supports 30% of the world's fish stocks, yet climate change, pollution, and overfishing threaten its fragile ecosystems. Our research and community-based conservation efforts aim to create sustainable solutions that balance marine protection and economic growth.

Join Us in Protecting Our Oceans!

At MERCE, we believe that science and society must work together for a thriving ocean future. Whether you are a researcher, student, conservationist, or coastal community member, we welcome collaboration and support.
